World Food Programme (WFP) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Communications and Advocacy Consultant in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Communications and Advocacy Consultant will be responsible for the overall technical support and coordination of the communication and advocacy needs of the SADC Regional Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis (RVAA) programme in all 15 Member States.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Communications and Advocacy Consultant will perform the following functions-

  • Support the programme and VACs in the development and implementation of communication, dissemination and advocacy strategies that achieve public awareness and policy uptake with regard to climate change, food insecurity, livelihood vulnerability and resilience building.
  • Support the management of the RVAA programme communications and advocacy outputs for SADC and Members States.
  • Work with the SADC and NVACs in increasing the availability and ease of the RVAA content ensuring easy location and retrieval.
  • Support RVAA programme research and policy analysis activities which will inform advocacy and policy uptake in SADC and Member States.
  • Provide advice and expertise to the RVAA programme on a range of advocacy and outreach issues, methods and approaches.
  • Work closely with the NVACs in defining key issues, messaging, and identifying appropriate communications channels for public advocacy initiatives.
  • Support RVAA programme planning and reporting and including monitoring and evaluation against programme outputs and log frame indicators and milestones.
  • Assist the TSM to prepare ad-hoc, quarterly and annual reports and high quality infographics on the RVAA programme.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • University in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.
  • 6 to 10 years relevant experience working on advocacy and communications.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to write various types of documents including articles, press statements, position papers and information materials.
  • Experience working with diverse institutions to strengthen their capacity and opportunities to engage in dialogue/advocacy with policymakers.
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is essential.
  • Working knowledge of French and Portuguese, an asset.
