Asian Development Bank (ADB) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Country Director in Thimphu, Bhutan.
The Country Director will lead the planning, implementation and supervision of the Bhutan Resident Mission’s (BHRM) vision, goals, strategies and work plan in support of overall ADB goals.
The ADB aims for an Asia and Pacific free from poverty.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Country Director will perform the following functions-
- Establish and articulate the BHRM’s vision, goals, development strategies and key result areas (KRAs) in support of ADB’s goals, departmental goals and in compliance with ADB policies.
- Lead the planning, implementation and supervision of work plans as well as monitor the quality of output and the achievement of long term goals and annual objectives of BHRM.
- Identify key priority areas of the BHRM including regional cooperation.
- Provide leadership in professional and operational matters, taking the lead in contributing new or innovative approaches to policy and operational issues, including local knowledge for project designs.
- Supervise the preparation of results-based Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) and Country Operations Business Plan (COBP), including providing information on economic and political developments and issues.
- Coordinate with HQ divisions for the implementation of operational strategies.
- Assist in the processing of new loan/technical assistance (TA) projects in all sectors in which ADB is involved, including assisting in the arrangements for ADB missions.
- Supervise the implementation of delegated loans and TA projects to improve ADB’s portfolio performance, assisting in the implementation of HQ-administered loans and TAs.
- Lead in the annual Country Portfolio Performance Review.
- Conduct periodic country portfolio review missions with support from HQ and provide mission follow-up support.
- Supervise the preparation of economic and sector studies.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, Engineering or related fields.
- University degree in Economics, Development Studies, Engineering or related fields combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
- At least 15 years relevant experience.
- Good understanding of South Asia Department operations and role and functions of its Resident Mission.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Russian language skills will be an added advantage.
- International experience working in development in several countries, regional experience will be advantageous.
