Open Society Foundations (OSF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Executive Director in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Executive Director will perform the following functions-

  • Work with the Regional Director, Middle East North Africa and Southwest Asia, the Open Society Afghanistan Advisory Board and staff to help develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for Afghanistan.
  • Play a strategic role in building and maintaining strong relationships with NGOs, civil society actors and international organizations whose values align with an open society agenda; keeping well informed about developments in the field and being resourceful in the sharing of information with relevant colleagues.
  • Report to the Regional Director of Open Society Foundation’s Middle East, North Africa and Southwest Asia Program and collaborating on the development of programming with the New York-based Regional Policy Initiative and other OSF network programs.
  • Supervise the process of developing and aligning program initiatives, budgets, communications, and relevant staffing to ensure successful implementation of the strategy.
  • Serve as the key spokesperson for OSA and representing the foundation in external relations.
  • Ensure that OSA remains financially robust and that critical operational infrastructure is reviewed and updated as required.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Advanced degree and significant experience in a non-profit foundation, nationwide NGO, think tank, academia, public administration, media, or commercial organization requiring strong leadership, management, and communications; including at least 5 years of managerial and supervisory experience at senior level in a complex institution.
  • Show strong organizational and management skills with a strong a grasp of budgeting techniques and analysis, planning ability, personnel management and supervisory skills, and excellent time management.
  • Excellent communication skills and be fluent in Dari or Pashto in addition to English; proficiency in more than 1 local language is preferred.
