United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Programme Coordinator in Nairobi, Kenya.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Programme Coordinator will perform the following functions:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and initiate corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; ensure follow-up actions.
  • Perform consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Coordinate policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies,
  • Assist the Deputy Executive Director, through liaison with internal and external partners, on strategic political, policy and operational issues related to UN Environment. Lead and coordinate the development of cross-cutting strategic policy directives, position papers, statements and briefings in accordance with the organizations priorities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, environmental science or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, environment related field or related area with at least 3 years at the international level is required.
  • Experience working with high-level officials is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UN Rules and Regulations is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English (both Oral and written). English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Working knowledge of another UN official Language is an added advantage.
