The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Economist in Washington D.C., United States.

WBG has set 2 ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Senior Economist will perform the following functions-

  • Lead the unit’s work on foreign direct investment analytics and diagnostics, including Investment Reform Map diagnostic tool.
  • Produce policy research papers on a variety of investment competitiveness topics, including chapters in the future editions of the Global Investment Competitiveness Report.
  • Provide intellectual leadership and background notes / research papers on a variety of economic and investment policy topics for management discussions, decision meetings, corporate reporting, flagship publications, and client-facing interactions.
  • Contribute to the team’s various analytical initiatives, including business surveys, policy and regulatory assessments, and impact estimations.
  • Provide operational cross-support through joining project teams and contributing to the design and implementation of investment policy offering and projects, to bring the latest intellectual thinking to the operational level and vice versa.
  • Lead the policy reform dialogue with Government authorities and development partners on select topics, including advising governments on formulation and implementation of various investment climate policies.
  • Contribute to the flagship WBG analytical and diagnostic reports in select countries; the reports include Strategic Country Diagnostics, Public Expenditure Reviews, Country Economic Memoranda and Country Private Sector Diagnostics.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in economics, with 8 years of experience.
  • Strong technical and operational skills as evidenced in a proven track record in delivery of Bank Work Group (or similar) operations and analytics.
  • Strong theoretical base in macroeconomics, tax and fiscal policy and analysis, and investment climate issues.
  • In-depth economic knowledge and analytical skills – possesses a demonstrated track record of working with analytical teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development arena – understands policy making processes and distills operationally relevant recommendations/lessons.
  • Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, as well as effective teamwork skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively and to present ideas clearly and concisely with senior policy officials.
