The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Economist in Washington D.C., United States.

WBG has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Senior Economist will perform the following functions-

  • Lead the economic policy dialogue with the authorities.
  • Serve as the focal point within the country team on macroeconomic, fiscal and growth issues.
  • Lead development policy lending operations.
  • Lead and serve as team member in a broad range of ASA work including on integrative and cross-cutting work.
  • Liaise with the IMF on the macroeconomic framework and the discussions on macro-fiscal issues and structural issues of macro relevance.
  • Work in the preparation of joint World Bank-IMF work where needed.
  • Lead within the country and macroeconomic monitoring tasks.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in economics (PhD preferred), with 8 years of experience.
  • Strong technical skills on macro-fiscal and growth issues and a proven track record in delivering high quality and technically sophisticated analytical work.
  • Strong operational and policy dialogue skills, as evidenced by a proven track record in delivering high quality Development Policy Operations.
  • Strong integrative skills in order to support the CMU in articulating its strategic thinking on economic growth and poverty reduction and to articulate a coherent policy dialogue with the authorities.
  • Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, team work and leadership qualities, and ability to work effectively across sectors/GPs.
