World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Team Coordinator in Suva, Fiji. The duration of this post is 2 years.

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.

Key Job Responsibilities

The Team Coordinator will perform the following functions:

  • Lead coordination of agreed components of the Region’s For the Future CCE Thematic Priority workplan, including coordinating the secretariat for the CCE TAG.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of the WHO team providing support to the PICs on climate change and environmental health priority areas including climate change and health, community and health facility water supply and sanitation, environmental health impact assessment, chemical safety, air quality, waste management including health care waste, food safety and healthy settings initiatives, in collaboration with the appropriate regional and national partners and officials, including:
    • provide advisory services on technical aspects of climate change and health, environmental and
    • occupational health with particular emphasis on appropriate technology as required;
    • develop disaster risk reduction/management strategies and respond to emergency requests;
    • develop and promote innovative approaches to environmental and occupational health problems;
    • prepare manuals, guidelines, and technical papers as required, draft legislation/regulations for the sector as required;
    • mobilize additional resources to support work on climate change and health, environmental health and occupational health;

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Postgraduate degree (master’s or higher) in environmental sciences, environmental health, environmental engineering, climate change-related sciences or natural sciences from an institution or university recognized in the International Association of Universities’ Worldwide Database of Higher Education Institutions Systems and Credentials (WHED).
  • Undergraduate degree in health, public health, environmental health or related area would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in development and implementation of scientific and operational aspects of environmental management, environmental health and climate change including planning, implementing, administering and research/training in water supply, sanitation and environmental health at national and international levels.
  • Working experience in developing countries is highly desirable. WHO’s Water Safety Planning (risk assessment/risk management) approach to improved drinking water, climate change and health, disaster risk management/reduction, and health care waste management are an asset.
  • Expert knowledge of English.
