World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Research Assistant in Lyons, France. The duration of this post is 2 years.

The Senior Research Assistant will provide analytical statistical support across the Genetic Epidemiology Group (GEP) at IARC and in particular, contribute to the analysis of high-dimensional omics data (mainly genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics) on multiple projects.

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Senior Research Assistant will perform the following functions-

  • Carry out statistical analysis for multiple projects, mostly involving high-dimensional omics data.
  • This may entail extraction and cleaning of data generated by laboratory personnel.
  • Assist in the interpretation and communication of the results of these analyses, including preparation of tables of results, graphs and explanatory text for inclusion in publications or funding applications.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of the processes and programming steps: data management, quality control, statistical analyses, data visualization and presentations undertaken, and contribute to adapt codes for sharing with other members of the Group.
  • Ad hoc consultancy on data quality aspects, study design and statistical methodology; preparation of analyses for reports, scientific publications or presentations.
  • Provide technical guidance in the area of biostatistics, to GEP staff as well as to Early Career and Visiting Scientists, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Graduation from secondary school supplemented by specialized training in the field of statistics and mathematics (BTS, DUT, or equivalent).
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Additional qualification in epidemiology or biostatistics (e.g. CESAM or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in relevant fields of expertise (notably biostatistics and cancer genomics).
  • Experience in an academic or research setting.
  • Knowledge of statistical principles and methods.
  • Intermediate or higher knowledge of English.
  • Intermediate or higher level of French.
