The Senior Health Specialist is responsible to lead the adoption of disruptive health technologies into Bank-financed health projects.

The Senior Health Specialist will perform the following functions-

  • Provide technical support to task teams and Ministries of Health on how to design and operational disruptive health technologies during the preparation, design and implementation of analytical and advisory services and lending operations, with a specific emphasis on artificial intelligence and technology-based approaches to improve quality of performance of frontline workers.
  • Provide technical support to evaluate budgets and manpower plans for proposals related to introduction of mobile technology and/or AI based applications to support front line workers projects.
  • Provide technical support to GFF country teams and with clients on developing appropriate terms of reference and evaluation processes in the procurement of AI and mobile technology to support front line health workers.
  • Provide technical support to the design of training programs and guidance materials that improve Bank processes for implementing disruptive health technologies and build country demand for innovation.
  • Provide technical support to the DDS and Service Delivery GSAs: support the TTLs in the coordination of the activities, the development of joint initiatives with other GSGs, development of knowledge tools and communication efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Medical Degree and Master’s degree or equivalent related to business processes.
  • At least 5-10 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Recognized expertise in AI for health.
  • Strong track record managing innovation pipelines from curation to pilots to scale up and mainstreaming.
  • Strong track record in the design and implementation of technology-based interventions to improve primary health care systems strengthening projects, ideally including both patient-facing and health worker-facing applications.
  • Deep understanding of primary health care systems challenges to achieving UHC.
  • Ability to coordinate contributions of specialists in other disciplines to complete a joint product.
  • Extensive and current knowledge of relevant analytical tools, and technical and administrative functions.
  • Knowledge of the preparation and supervision of grants and donor-funded projects, is desirable.
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills.
  • Diplomatic and client-engagement skills, and proven success working both as a team member and as a team leader.
  • Proactive and result-focused work style with strong problem-solving capabilities.
