The World Bank Group (WBG) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Social Development Specialist in New Delhi, India.

WBG has set 2 ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Social Development Specialist will perform the following functions-

  • Work under coordination of the Country social safeguard focal point to provide direct operational support to clients and Bank teams on social sustainability and safeguards to ensure compliance with Bank policies.
  • Serve as a social development specialist, advising task teams and clients on the Bank’s policies relating to assessment and mitigation of social risks and impacts particularly on involuntary resettlement, indigenous peoples, labor and working conditions, Gender mainstreaming, citizen Engagement, stakeholder consultations  and intuitional development during preparation and supervision of lending operations.
  • This also includes application of the World Bank’s new Environmental and Social Framework(ESF) within the region  in borrower countries.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Master’s degree in a related social science (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Political Science) with at least 5 years’ professional experience in social sustainability, social standards/safeguards and social development; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in addressing social issues covered by the World Bank’s ESF or social safeguards policies.
  • Relevant experience in the field of social accountability and citizen engagement (including public consultations; participatory monitoring and evaluation; and grievance redress mechanisms.
  • In depth knowledge of at least one of the other social development competencies social inclusion; addressing fragility, conflict and violence, community driven development (incl. community mobilization and empowerment) is desirable.
  • Nationality of India.
