United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Resilience Programme Specialist in Kathmandu, Nepal. The duration of this post is 1 year.

UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.

Key Job Responsibilities

The Resilience Programme Specialist will perform the following functions-

  • Provide advisory services and facilitation of knowledge and capacity building on DRR and CCA is provided.
  • Formulation of strategies for strengthening DRR/CCA capacities and integration into development is supported based on thorough assessment and analysis of socio-political, and cultural economy of the country, particularly with regard to provisions of a federal structure as per the Constitution.
  • Provide insight and technical advice for development of the strategies (such as National Policy and Action Plan on DRR) including on the formation of technical committees, working groups and other mechanisms relating to the formulation and implementation process.
  • Effective roll-out of socio-technical facilitation mechanisms for housing reconstruction supported for the project sites in the country, and documentation of experiences and practices to undertake appropriate course-correction.
  • Innovative approaches are explored for a dynamic disaster information system to better inform various aspect of disaster and climate risk management, with the consideration of various existing disaster and climate data/information system as well as other socio-economic data.
  • Support in design of innovative projects and mobilize resources from various partners and funding sources in the areas of DRR/CCA, environment and recovery as per UNDP corporate and UNDAF/CPD priorities.
  • Support extending partnership with national and international institutions for promoting innovation, policy research and analysis and joint advocacy for resilient recovery, climate adaptation and DRR linked to development.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Completion of Master’s degree or equivalent in social science, international development or relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience of policy coordination and program management including Disaster and Climate Risk Management, post-disaster recovery linked to broader development context.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages.
  • Training in risk assessment, resilience building, policy and evaluations.
  • Excellent command of English both in writing and speaking.
