Child Protection Officer at UNICEF, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Child Protection Officer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Child Protection Officer will support implementation of the child protection and child Justice work and assists in monitoring, evaluating and reporting of progress and results of the overall child protection components of the country programme.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Child Protection Officer will perform the following functions-

  • Support development of measure for strengthening primary and secondary prevention of violence against children with particular focus on violence at family, and community level, including school and institution.
  • Support multisector stakeholder engagement and partnership, which include relevant government agency, NGOs, academia, the private sector, parliamentarian, religious leader and the media on work related to violence against children including child marriage, and support piloting of positive parenting practice to parent and carer in selected location and monitor change in parental behaviour and practice.
  • Support training for health worker, teachers, police, local authority, community leader, to strengthen their knowledge and skill to identify and respond to child protection risk including referral of affected children to appropriate care and rehabilitation service.
  • Support and contribute to advocacy initiative and engagement with religiou leader, civil society organisation (CSOs), Parliamentarian, children and young people and other stakeholder on measure to combat child marriage.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of pilot initiative on diversion and probation.
  • Support advocacy on ending detention of children, specifically administrative detention and promotion of alternative to detention model
  • Support the assessment of Department of Social Welfare Institution for children in conflict with the law.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • University Degree in law, social work, psychology, sociology, or other social science field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in social welfare and child protection and other related areas is required.
  • Relevant experience in program/project development and management in a UN system agency or organisation is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
  • Nationality of Malaysia.
