Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Gender Advisor will perform the following functions-

  • Ensure the UN Gender Guidelines for mine action programmes are applied across the full programme management cycle in order to ensure gender objectives, as set out in the Guidelines, are translated to analysis, initiatives and operations, as well as decision-making processes and the development of good practices.
  • Introduce gender mainstreaming into operational practice in the field by producing a single, coordinated plan incorporating initiatives undertaken and planned among stakeholders working on gender mainstreaming and Mine Action activities.
  • Propose revisions, introduction of best practices and adoption of gender guidelines within the local/international mine action partners’ policies/SOP/manuals and practices to mainstream gender equality and improve prioritization and planning processes.
  • Propose a data collection system so that MA operators and authorities collect gender, disability, and age disaggregated data on beneficiaries.
  • Support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security.
  • Coordinate, as needed, with other UN agencies, Funds and Programmes that have complementary mandates on gender related issues through participating in working level mechanisms, as well as coordinates with relevant institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in development related disciplines, gender issues, human rights, political science, behavioral science, or other relevant social science fields, with a minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • First level University degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in development related disciplines, gender issues, human rights, political science, behavioral science, or other relevant social science fields, with minimum 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in gender and development, gender and security, gender analysis, or gender training.
  • Experience implementing gender-responsive initiatives is required.
  • Experience working on gender related issues in conflict / post-conflict environments is required.
  • Experience in humanitarian affairs and experience in mine action is highly desired.
  • Experience training on gender responsive mine action desired.
  • Fluency in English is required (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Fluency in another UN official language is desired.
