World Food Programme (WFP) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Programme Policy Officer-Nutrition in Maseru, Lesotho.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Programme Policy Officer-Nutrition will perform the following functions:

  • Contribute towards the development of nutrition programmes, activities and plans, and ensuring alignment with and adherence to corporate processes, policies and guidance to provide strategic guidance to the country office under the Interim Country Strategic Plan as well as the Country Strategic Plan.
  • Support and Advanced University degree in Human Nutrition/ Public Health, Social Sciences or other field relevant to Nutrition and/or HIV., protocols and guidelines in line with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and international guidance and current evidence.
  • Collaborate with other Country office units to ensure effective programme design and delivery of activities and outputs.
  • Working with the Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) /Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) unit, provide technical guidance on nutrition data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained in all nutrition related monitoring and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the documentation of best practices and knowledge management in nutrition programmes and evidence building for nutrition advocacy, policy direction and programme decision-making in Lesotho.
  • Support the appropriate integration of nutrition, HIV and gender with other programmes and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent WFP at international, regional and national meetings to contribute in technical discussions, exchange experiences, advocate for nutrition interventions and identify areas of potential collaboration.
  • Guide and supervise junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them on complex analysis and queries.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to food assistance and malnutrition needs as well as mentorship programmes in nutrition.
  • Perform any other official duties as requested by the supervisor from time to time.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Advanced University degree in Human Nutrition/ Public Health, Social Sciences or other field relevant to Nutrition and/or HIV.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible professional working experience in implementing /supervising nutrition programmes at different levels.
  • Current knowledge of the latest developments in the field of public health, nutrition, HIV and AIDS.
  • Specialised knowledge and experience in at least one of these areas: nutrition assessment and counselling, social behaviour change and communication, dietary management, qualitative and quantity techniques, nutrition analysis, resource mobilisation and Scaling Up Nutrition initiative.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to interpret complex nutrition matters, and a grasp of a variety of concepts and approaches of public health concerns.
  • Proven capacity in conducting nutritional surveys/preparing nutrition documents/reports.
