The Deputy Programme Manager is responsible for overseeing the performance all project activities. He/she will, as required, assist the Programme Manager with planning the project and in obtaining commitments to complete the project within the established schedule and budget constraints.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Deputy Programme Manager will perform the following functions-

  • Complete the project within the budgeted cost, schedule and quality requirements.
  • Support project planning, monitor and evaluate project and construction activities.
  • Participate in identifying, mitigating, and monitoring project risks and issues.
  • Track project execution by ensuring timely and adequate reporting against plans including providing timely and articulate progress reports.
  • Monitor all project activities in relation to the respective project work plans and take corrective action, when necessary, to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of project outputs.
  • Maintain and improve the project communication system to facilitate the dissemination of information and reports to all key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and monitor project progress and other reports and documents as required.
  • Monitor project progress, identify improvement opportunities, revise work plans and make adjustments to meet the project objectives.
  • Monitor contract obligations, develop management systems and accountabilities to ensure all contract obligations are tracked and met. Including UNOPS, contractors and clients/donor contract obligations.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction or Project Management or related field is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction or Project Management with additional 2 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project and/or program development and/or management is required.
  • Field based experience and demonstrated delivery of projects and programme in conflict and/or post conflict situations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and familiarity with UNOPS procedures an advantage.
  • Experience in best practice implementation is an advantage
  • Skills in project management, stakeholder management and client management is required.
  • Fluency in written and oral English is required.
  • Knowledge of Arabic language desired.
