United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Management Officer in Athens, Greece.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Programme Management Officer will perform the following functions-
- Acts as the technical secretary to the Mediterranean Commission for Sustainable Development (MCSD):
- Prepare the working and information documents of the MCSD and its Steering Committee meetings in particular with regards to socio-economic aspects of sustainable development (SD) and interactions with environmental pillar of sustainable development (SD) in the Mediterranean.
- Assess the information and inputs provided from different programmes and components of MAP related to the MCSD and the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD) and summarizing such inputs for reporting purposes to the MCSD, its Steering Committee as well as to the main decision making bodies of the MAP system.
- Provide organizational support to the meetings of the MCSD, MCSD Steering Committee as well as to related thematic meetings.
- Provide substantive support to the MCSD meetings and/or its Steering Committee in preparing their main contributions and deliverables for the consideration of the Meeting of the Contracting Parties of the Barcelona Convention.
- Acts as UNEP/MAP Focal Point for the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD):
- Assist the MCSD in the monitoring and evaluation of the MSSD implementation through the development of a set of MSSD implementation indicators.
- Support data collection and assessment in collaboration with the relevant MAP components and other partners to assess MSSD implementation at regional level for MCSD and COP consideration.
- Support the implementation of peer review mechanisms established for MSSD implementation and monitoring.
- Organize thematic meetings promoting MSSD implementation and share of experiences and good practices among MCSD members and other actors with regards to SD policies and actions undertaken.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) in environmental studies, natural sciences, development studies, or related disciplines is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project development and management in the environment sector is required.
- Knowledge, understanding and working experience at the international level on sustainable development issues in the Mediterranean region and with inter-governmental processes and organizations is also required.
- Experience in managing and providing support to substantive/scientific organizations is an asset.
- Fluency in oral and written English as well as working knowledge of French are required. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
- Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
