United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Project Manager in Skopje, Macedonia.

The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the projects and provides services to the different donors, partners and beneficiaries. He/she is expected to meet and exceed the organizations performance and delivery goals.

UNOPS mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure, and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Project Manager will perform the following functions-

  • Establish solid working relationship with the project board (Executive, Senior Users and Senior Suppliers), client and key stakeholders.
  • Manage communications and ensure stakeholders are aware of project activities, progress, exceptions and are in a position to accept handover products.
  • Identify and manage risks so that maximum benefit to client and stakeholders is achieved.
  • Manage and review product quality and ensure products are accepted.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of service providers.
  • Manage budgets, cash flow and obligations to ensure that deliverables are met and payments to contractors and personnel are received on time.
  • Understand and manage UNOPS overheads, allocable charges, and related corporate charges as they apply to the project.
  • Actively interact with other PMs and the PM community to share case studies, lessons learned and best practice on the Knowledge System.
  • Provide feedback to Practice Leads on policy, supporting guidance with an aim towards continuous improvement of UNOPS policies.
  • Ensure that behavioural expectations of team members are established.
  • Ensure that performance reviews are conducted.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • Advanced University Degree preferably in Project Management, Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Social/Development Studies, or other relevant discipline is required.
  • University Degree (bachelor’s degree/first level) with a combination of two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree.
  • 2 years (or more based on academic credentials) of experience in project development and management, with focus on monitoring, reporting, development and coordination in local governance/development field is required.
  • Experience in dealing with the ministries and donors is an asset.
  • Experience of developing and implementing projects at the local level in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is an asset.
  • In depth knowledge of the EU accession process and managing specialist consultants in this field is an asset.
  • Fluency in Macedonian and English is required.
  • Written and spoken Albanian and Serbian would be an asset.
  • Driving license and ability to travel independently is required.
  • Nationality of Macedonia.
