United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Senior Programme Specialist in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Senior Programme Specialist will be expected to coordinate with and work in close collaboration with the Director of Water Sciences (SC/HYD) and the Secretary of the International Hydrological Program (IHP) on water sciences activities and IHP projects.

Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Senior Programme Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Provide intellectual leadership and guidance to Water and Ecological Science activities and projects in the Asia-Pacific Region in order to develop, drive and ensure the delivery of a comprehensive natural scientific strategy and the design of relevant approaches, partnerships, policies, objectives and deliverables which are consistent with the priorities of Member States.
- Participate in joint UN programming activities related to Natural Sciences and ensure the alignment of work plans with national and UN development frameworks, such as the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
- Act as Regional Hydrologist to promote active participation in the IHP within the Asia-Pacific Region and coordinate related activities and projects, as well as, provide expert consultation on the subject to cluster offices, national offices and other concerned entities.
- Lead and manage the Natural Sciences staff in the office and multi-disciplinary teams towards the achievement of objectives and policy development.
- Locate and mobilize resources, maintain and pursue strategic partnerships and promote programmatic work in order to deliver a comprehensive scientific strategy and prepare reports.
- Serve as the regional MAB focal point and ensure that activities and projects related to Ecological and Earth Sciences are implemented within the framework of the United Nations 2030 Global Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals, the New MAB Strategy (2015-2025) and the Lima Action Plan (2016-2025).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) preferably in the field of water sciences, ecological sciences, earth sciences or in another related field of environment and natural sciences.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible, relevant professional experience in the areas of water resources, hydrology and water resources research and/or ecological and/or earth sciences, of which at least 5 years acquired at the international level.
- Solid working experience with water and ecological science education, training and/or research on water, ecology, natural resource utilization and management, including work experience with natural resources and water-specialized agencies of the UN System, Professional NGOs and/or international organizations for technical cooperation.
- Demonstrated partnership development and fundraising experience.
- Proven managerial experience.
- Confirmed experience in leading, managing and motivating the staff and teams.
- Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.
