Data Manager at WHO, Freetown, Sierra Leone

World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Data Manager in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The duration of this post is 12 months.

The objective is to improve the ability of all levels of the health system to detect and respond to diseases and hazards that cause high levels of death, illness, and disability by providing timely and reliable data for taking action, and by improving the quality of historical data.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Data Manager will perform the following functions-

  • Provide technical advice to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) and partners, in the development and implementation of strategies and programmes related to the epidemiological data needs for public health surveillance and response, within the context of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) and International Health Regulations (2005).
  • Supporting the national and district levels in training, supportive supervision and mentorship on data management and use.
  • Support MOHS to ensure quality and accurate data collection, collation, correlation, analysis, interpretation and timely reporting in the country.
  • Conduct real-time analysis of outbreak intelligence data (multiple sources) on infectious diseases with other team members for epidemic forecasting and detection, use of data for monitoring of trends and Triggers (Alert and Action thresholds) and guide MOHS on data quality improvement as well as methodologies for performing Data Quality Audit (DQA).
  • Facilitate the national quarterly surveillance review meeting including the tracking of performance indicators related to the implementation of IDSR and IHR 2005.
  • Any other duty assigned by the Head of WHO office, HSE cluster Coordinator, and the IDSR Technical Team Lead.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • University degree in statistics, mathematics, health records & Information or other relevant fields.
  • Advanced university degree in Statistics, epidemiology, health records & Information or a post-graduate degree in public health with substantial training in Biostatistics.
  • 5 years experience in managing disease surveillance and response data at national or international level. Proven experience in management of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) data.
  • Previous experience of working with UN Agencies and Ministry of Health (MOH) in the area of data management.
  • Expert knowledge of English.
