Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Programme Officer in Bangkok, Thailand.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will perform the following functions-

  • Research, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources and contributes to the development of documents and reports including jointly with the other Regional Commissions.
  • Coordinate policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies and publications, including in the framework of the Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism and through coordination within the Secretariat.
  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling and follow-up of the meetings including between the Regional Commissions, within the Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism and with other external stakeholders.
  • Organize and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, and coordinates inputs from ESCAP divisions and other regional commissions as needed.
  • Provide substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings and conferences, including expert group meetings, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • Coordinate activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation submissions, progress reports, financial statement, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have-

  • University degree in business administration, public administration, management, economics or a related field.
  • University degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area, including at the international level is required.
  • Experience in economic and social development is desirable.
  • Knowledge of climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in English is required.
