World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Health Systems Officer in Mogadiscio, Somalia. The duration of this post is 1 year.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Health Systems Officer will perform the following functions:
- Collaborate with other health partners to optimize support for building a strong health system including but not limited to governance, access to medicines and health products, distribution and skills of health workforce, health financing, health management information systems and service delivery.
- Generate evidence, knowledge and best practice models for implementing “low-cost, high impact” health interventions in the country that promotes advancing universal health coverage and policies of government for attaining “Health for All”
- Guide, advise and technically support conducting assessments and surveys for mapping of health resources including service availability with a view to improving primary health care services.
- Develop plans for operationalizing humanitarian, development, and peace nexus (HDPN) in support of accelerating primary health care services in the country.
- Support the implementation of “PHC accelerator” for the Global Action Plan for Health and Well Being.
- Collaborate with other partners including the ministries of health of Federal Member States to support the roll-out of essential package of health services and improve service delivery.
- Establish linkage between the NIH of Somalia and other regional and international public health institutes for exchange programme and other collaborative works in the field of health security and health system.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have:
- University Degree in Medicine, Health Science or in Public Health.
- At least 5 year’s experience at national level in the field of health systems and/or health policy development
- Prior work experience with WHO, other UN agency, health cluster partners recognized humanitarian organizations or with an international nongovernmental organization with expertise in health systems.
- Sound knowledge on health systems reform, primary health care and Universal Health Coverage.
- Proven skills on health policy development, planning, monitoring, and evaluating health systems.
