World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Social Media Specialist in Washington, D.C., United States. The duration of this post is 2 years.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.
Key Jobs Responsibilities
The Social Media Specialist will perform the following functions-
- Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.
- Provide technical guidance, information and support to technical entities to improve or expand the Organization’s use of social media, ensuring that the Organization utilizes the most modern and up to date technologies available.
- Generate, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
- Develop and implement the social media strategy and policies for the Organization by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices and then acting on the information.
- Provide guidance to focal points and technical staff on planning, designing, developing and implementing social media and digital components of communications campaigns, in English and Spanish, to promote public understanding and engagement during media coverage of key technical cooperation activities.
- Prepare communication products in English and Spanish that most effectively convey the desired information and message to target audiences for key initiatives, in accordance with PAHO’s Corporate Communications Strategy.
- Prepare, update and maintain social media guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for users and assist in the process of developing and disseminating publishing standards, norms and practices of the Organization.
- Collaborate with team members and technical entities in preparing briefing materials for senior officials prior their participation in events at regional or global level.
- Coordinate with focal points at the World Health Organization (WHO) and other Regions, in the development of social media and digital sections of communications strategies and plans for dissemination of priority issues and other major events.
- Build and facilitate strategic contacts and partnerships to ensure effective public advocacy and communications.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Bachelor’s degree in strategic communication, journalism, media studies, digital media communication, advertising or a related field from a recognized university.
- 7 years of combined national and international professional experience in social media network development, communication, journalism, advertising and creative writing or a related field.
- Proven experience in development of digital communication products including Digital portfolio would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use hardware, including mobile devices and production software related to Web 2.0, HootSuite platform and other social media tools.
- Sound knowledge of other software such as Adobe Social and Adobe Creative Suite will be an asset.
- Good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language.
- Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.
