The Protection Officer-Youth Empowerment will responsible to give a substantial contribution to technical guidance and management of the youth empowerment project as required in the project documents and protection programming; Capacity building of junior national and refugee staff, beneficiaries, duty-bearers and other stakeholders.

DRC fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in the conflict areas of the world.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Protection Officer-Youth Empowerment will perform the following functions:

  • Technical Support:
    • Develop and facilitate youth recreational activities in the youth friendly spaces.
    • Plan and facilitate capacity building for youth, including training on peace building, leaderships training, protection mainstreaming training and life skills.
    • Involve the youth in youth-led awareness campaigns and initiatives targeting youth.
  • General Management and Support:
    • Estimate quarterly program purchase requests according to the field requirements and submit requests on time.
    • Monitor supply and logistical needs of project and ensure adherence to all relevant DRC logistic policies, including management of materials in the youth recreational centers.
  • Reporting:
    • Under the direction of the Team Leader Protection, support local level reporting for both internal and donor purposes on all Protection related activities.
    • This will include providing weekly reports to the Team Leader Protection, and MEAL Officer.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Education, Psychology or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an entry to mid to level position, preferably with experience in the NGO field.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate in English and write clear and concise reports in English.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Fluency in English language is required.
  • Strong planning, organization and problem solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment.
  • Excellent personnel management skills, including diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English & Amharic.
  • Local language is an asset (Nuer/Arabic)
  • Nationality of Ethiopia.
